When you move in there are a few easy things you can do that will protect your security deposit and make moving out easier.
Fill out a move-in condition checklist.
Take photos or a video of your place with your phone and keep them somewhere safe in case you need to find them when you move out.
Keep a copy of the checklist somewhere you can find it when you move out!
Be as specific and detailed as possible.
Have your landlord or someone from your property management company sign or initial the checklist.
Keep track of all correspondence with your landlord or property management company. If possible, get all promises and conditions mentioned at move-in put in writing.
